Upon registering with FatCow, you are given access to your webhosting account. The account is mainly comprised by vDesk control panel. The control panel is like the engine that drives all functions of your website. Through this control panel, you’ll be able to install or download files and content of your websites, configure some settings on your notifications and security and even check statistics on the performance of your website. Yes, FatCow hosts your website through the plan you subscribed to but most of the inner workings of designing your website and filling up its content are in your hands. Thus, you’ll have to be fully informed in the “control” of your control panel to manage your websites efficiently.

Basic Requirement

To have access of your control panel, log in to your FatCow account. It always starts from there.
3 Main Parts of Control Panel
Your control panel consists of three main parts.

  1.  First is the Shortcut that is above all the sections.
  2.  The second part Is the Management Tools which compose the bulk of the panel for it has subsections of website, email, domain and account management.
  3.  The last main part is the Monitors located vertically at the right side of the loaded page. From the Monitors section, you can check and alter the amount of bandwidth, the usage of bandwidth and mailboxes.

Using Your Control Panel

 Shortcut

In the Shortcut part of the control panel, you can do the basic actions such as editing your website, checking the traffic, managing emails and upgrading your hosting plan. Editing your website may involve your File Manager. Checking the traffic is checking the bandwidth and disk space. Managing emails are for notifications concerning your hosting plan and website management.

 Management Tools

In the subsection of Website Management, the following can be done: accept credit cards, file manager, ftp access, shopsite starter, manage MySQL database, Cyber Message Book and Guest Book. These functions are the basics of your website. Through File Manager, you can copy/paste or move files and install or even delete folders. FTP access can directly link your webhosting account to your other email accounts and receive notifications. Shopsite starter can aid you in shopping more of developer tools for your website.
Email Management subsection will house your emails. You can check out the Email List Manager and have AutoResponders for emails concerning your website.
Through Domain Management subsection, you can add more domains and point those domains to your webhosting account.
In the account management, you can check your billing status, payment overview, update information of your credit card, change email address assigned to your webhosting account and change passwords.

 Monitors

As the name says, this section allows you to monitor basic hosting features of your plan.Disk space gives the amount of disk space available and used by your website. Bandwidth is the present traffic of your website. The Traffic reflects the loading of the webpages and files. Mailboxes denote the number of mailboxes that have been used and are still available as subscribed to your plan. In each of those subsections, two links are provided namely Details and Add More.
Details will give you more information on the status of the specific feature.
Add More is an option for you to increase the amount of space or availability of that feature.

Control Panel’s Convenience

Ever since FatCow has upgraded to vDesk control panel from its old version with an interface of color gray and blue, the management of control panel has been easier, and more convenient. Its icons are arranged carefully into main categories and subsections. There are drop down menus, a whole view of main interface and also a QuickStart panel that happens to be above the main interface.
