  • Web hosting. An online service that enables certain websites to be accessible by other computers across the world through a server with the help of the Internet. There are different types of hosting offered by various hosting providers, including free, shared, and dedicated web hosting, among others.

Before choosing what type to take, you need to first assess your website needs and preferences. Free hosting, as the term implies, is free from financial obligations. Since it is free, services may be limited and slow. This type is only suitable for personal use. Shared hosting is a type wherein hundreds, even thousands, of users share a single server’s resources. Since the resources are shared, there is a tendency for your website to run slow and there is only a limited amount of disk space and bandwidth. The cost of a certain package is also shared among the users. Dedicated hosting, on the other hand, is the more advanced type but is relatively higher in price since you will have to lease the entire server all to yourself. It offers unlimited amount of bandwidth and disk space, meaning you can store data and transfer files as much as you want. It is the best choice for large companies/businesses.

  • Domain name. A domain name refers to the name of your website. (Example: yourdomain.com). To help establish their credibility online, business owners are encouraged to register their own domain name either directly through ICANN’s domain name registrar or through your preferred web hosting provider.
  • Website builders. These are applications/tools that are easy to use and quick to install even for the average computer users. Using site builders does not require you to have extensive knowledge or expertise in HTML, so you can create your own website.

  1. BlueHost is transferring my site from WordPress.com to WordPress.org so I can install CTA buttons.
I am a VERY small business ( cartoonist selling one book through dog rescue sites).
While signing up for BlueHost I ended up also signing up for their $24 a month hosting. But now I am having second thoughts as I shall be paying more annually than I may earn (including a prime theme and the costs for self publishing my book).
Can I install CTA buttons without having to pay this extra fee? What is the extra fee for?
I am trying to speak to someone over the phone but no one is psicking up.

    1. Hi Elivia,

You definitely do not need BlueHost’s $24/mo hosting… Sign up for just their most basic hosting.
I’m not really sure what you mean about an extra fee.
But call to action buttons would be easily made using a free WordPress plugin like “Shortcodes Ultimate” or the WordPress theme you already chose may have them already integrated for easy use.
A hosting company like BlueHost may not be very helpful on the phone, as it’s not their job to be your web designer and consultant. I suggest you watch this video I found which shows you how to make a website step by step. She uses HostGator in the video, but it’s the same type of hosting whether you use BlueHost or HostGator, so the steps you follow are the same: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TY4DsaDVh8U
